The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA & CIMA) has announced the appointment of Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, as its incoming CEO. Koziel will take the helm of the organization beginning January 1, 2025, following a transition period. This appointment comes after a comprehensive global search to find a successor to Barry Melancon, who announced earlier this year that he would retire by the end of 2024.
Koziel brings extensive experience to his new role, currently serving as president and CEO of Allinial Global, the second-largest accounting association in the world. With Allinial Global’s 268 member firms generating over $6 billion in combined revenues, Koziel has been instrumental in driving the organization’s strategic growth and financial performance. His leadership experience, along with his 14-year tenure with AICPA and the Association, positions him as a seasoned advocate for the accounting profession.
Koziel’s influence in the field is well recognized. He has consistently appeared among the top 10 of Accounting Today’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting and has been named to the International Accounting Bulletin’s Global Accounting Power 50 List. His background, which began at a large local accounting firm in Buffalo, NY, further underscores his deep-rooted commitment to the accounting profession.
The selection of Koziel as CEO followed an extensive process led by Korn Ferry, a leading global executive search firm. AICPA & CIMA’s board, under the leadership of past Chair Anoop Mehta, worked diligently to evaluate and interview candidates from around the world. Koziel’s appointment marks a new chapter for AICPA & CIMA, as he will continue to champion the advancement of accountants globally.
Members of the valuation industry can expect Koziel’s experience and vision to bring forward a strong, unified approach to leading one of the most influential professional bodies in accounting.
